Gerald S. Welch, 89, of Williamsport, died Sunday, January 15, 2017 at his home.

Born December 29, 1927 in Linden, he was a son of the late Norman D. and Mildred E. (Hill) Welch. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Winifred (McKee) Welch in 1995 and a sister Beatrice Johns.

He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War, and he retired after 25 years from Stone Containers. He attended Buchanan Baptist Church. Gerald enjoyed crossword puzzles, game shows, reading his Bible, and spending time with his grandson and great grandson.

Surviving are two daughters Diane Preston and Doris Welch both of Williamsport, a grandson James Preston, Jr. (Christine) of Williamsport and a great grandson James Preston, III, two brothers Truman Welch (Lois) and Joseph Welch (Peggy) both of Williamsport, a brother-in-law Walter Johns of Williamsport, and Maggie his beloved cat.

A graveside service to honor the life of Gerald will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, January 19 at Woodward Township Cemetery, Martin Road, Linden, with military honors accorded by the Korean War Veterans of Lycoming County.
