Kay VanHorn Obituary

Kay C. VanHorn, 79, of Allenwood, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2022 at UPMC Williamsport.

Born Jan. 24, 1942 in Williamsport, she was the daughter of the late Richard E. and Waneta M. (Harrison) Shaffer.

Kay was a 1961 graduate of Williamsport High School. She was employed for many years in customer service working at both Sears and Purity Candy Co. She was a longtime member of St. Johns-Allenwood United Methodist Church.

Kay enjoyed spending her time gardening. Yellow flowers and lilacs were her absolute favorite. She was also a talented ceramic artist creating unique pieces and gifting many to loved ones. Family was of utmost importance to Kay. She loved being a wife, mother, and Grammy. Kay will certainly be remembered for her loving, caring ways and her famous salad.  

Surviving are her husband of 59 years, Richard L. VanHorn; three children, Michael VanHorn (Karen), Dean VanHorn (Christine), and Tammy George, all of Allenwood; four grandchildren, Lucas VanHorn, Jennifer Litzelman, Christopher Litzelman (Caitlin), Shenai Haladay (Josh); six great-grandchildren with one on the way; a sister, Connie Tryanski (Tony) of Philadelphia; two nephews; one niece; and a close friend, Nancy Gottschall.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Jason A. George.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family with burial in Green Lawn Memorial Park.
