Darrell W. McCandless

     Darrell W. McCandless, 70, of Trout Run passed away Thursday, July 18 at UPMC  Susquehanna. Surviving is the love of his life, his wife, Debra S. (Moyer) McCandless, who he celebrated his 48th anniversary with the day before his passing.

      Born May 7, 1949 in Franklin he was a son of the late Albert C. and Lucille M. (Austin) McCandless.

     Darrell was a graduate of Williamsport Area Community College and worked as a Master Plumber for more than 30 years.  He was employed by Mechanical Associates, NRC, and Master Contractors and was well respected by his coworkers, even though he was known for being incredibly meticulous and “Darrellizing” a job.

      Darrell truly loved living in North Central PA and on Rose Valley Lake. His home environment was the perfect location for an outdoor enthusiast, from hunting, fishing, sailing and riding his motorcycle in the surrounding areas; to trap shooting, bicycling and ice skating in his earlier years. Lately he could be found in his garden or tinkering with his bee collection as self-made apiary.

     Darrell was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and was an exceptional provider for his family. He was kind hearted and would help anyone with no expectation of anything in return, even if he was the one who needed help as his health condition became more complicated. His one liner comments were second to none and his soft spoken, sweet, gentle, happy go lucky personality will certainly be missed by all who knew him.

      Surviving in addition to his wife are his children, Kirk W. McCandless (Wendy) of Williamsport, Ann M. Sturm (Robert) of New Cumberland and Christopher D. McCandless of Montoursville; his grandchildren; Cory Kuhns, Stefn McCandless, Austin McCandless, Nicole Kuhns, Taj McCandless; a special granddaughter and great-granddaughter; a brother, Timothy McCandless of Williamsport, several nieces and nephews; two sister in laws, Sandae and Dawn McCandless and his beloved dog Buddy.

     In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald and Dennis McCandless.

     A memorial service to honor the life of Darrell will be held 6 p.m. Monday, July 22 at Sanders Mortuary, 821 Diamond St. Williamsport. Burial will be held privately.
