William P. Welch, known affectionately as Scott to his friends and family, passed away on July 19, 2024, at the age of 65.
Born on February 28, 1959, in Williamsport, the same beloved town where he would eventually say his goodbyes, Scott lived a life marked by dedication, service, and the pursuit of his passions.
Scott’s journey began as the cherished son of Mary L. (Lindsay) Welch, who survives him, and Marshall D. Welch, Jr. He is survived by his devoted wife, Joyce B. (Buehler) Welch; his four adored children, Rebecca Harding (Mark) of Williamsport, Margaret Thompson (Matt) of Havertown, Sarah Baskin (Jason Shifflett), and Joseph Baskin all of Williamsport; 9 grandchildren; and his siblings, Marshall Welch, III (Erin) and Graham Welch. Scott and Joyce would have celebrated 35 years of marriage on September 15.
A proud graduate of Williamsport High School and WACC, Scott applied the knowledge he gained to educate others. For 21 years, he was a respected teacher at Pennsylvania College of Technology, where he imparted his wisdom to students in diesel technology and aviation maintenance. Scott's commitment to his work was paralleled by his dedication to helping others. Through his own "His Wings Aviation Ministries", he flew over 1,000 charity flights, selflessly transporting cancer patients and burn victims. Scott’s interests were as varied as they were engaging. An active member of the Dunwoody Hunting Club, he also found joy in hobbies such as flying, woodworking, fly fishing, bowling, and skeet shooting.
A celebration of life will be held on August 3 at Cogan Station Christian Church. Visitation 10:00 am till 11:00 am with a brief service to be held at 11:00am.
