Shirley L. Winner, 91, of Lewisburg, unexpectedly joined family members in heaven on Monday, December 23, 2019, at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, A. Neale Winner, in 2008.
Born May 21, 1928, in Williamsport, she was a daughter to the late Wilbur and Myrtle (Moyer) Johnston.
Shirley was a graduate of Williamsport High School. She worked as a bank teller, shared her love with her two children as a homemaker through their youth, and then retired from JanWay. Shirley was a member of St. John's-Newberry United Methodist Church.
She enjoyed puzzles, sewing, shopping, reading, and cheering for Penn State Football, especially when it involved a good family rivalry. Shirley loved using her hands while being creative through arts and crafts, participating frequently in the activities offered at the “Studio” (RiverWoods). She was a social butterfly with an outgoing personality, appreciating her time with the friends she had made as a resident of RiverWoods over the last 15 years, after having lived in Williamsport (Newberry) until then.
Surviving are her children, Douglas A. Winner, of Lewisburg and Lorna W. Curry (Travis), of New Columbia; six grandchildren, Kirsten, Blake and Lucas Winner, Travis Manning, TChano Curry and Tamar Curry; and two great-granddaughters.
In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Regina Girio (Winner) and her brothers, Perry, Merrill, and Lee Johnston.
A viewing will be held at Sanders Mortuary, 821 Diamond Street, Williamsport, on Monday, December 30 from 10 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. followed by a graveside ceremony at Jersey Shore Cemetery. A memorial service to honor the life of Shirley will be held 2 p.m, Monday, December 30 at RiverWoods Senior Living Community, Creative Arts Room, 15 Rivercrest Circle, Lewisburg PA, 17837.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Shirley’s name may be made to RiverWoods Auxiliary c/o C.A.R., 15 Rivercrest Circle, Lewisburg PA, 17837 for a program she was very passionate about during her residency.
