Samuel "Sam" Yoder Obituary

Samuel Park "Sam" Yoder, 88, of Williamsport, passed away on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at UPMC Williamsport. Surviving is his beloved wife of nearly 68 years, Dolly Ann (Brownson) Yoder, whom he married on December 27, 1955.

Born on January 13, 1935, in Williamsport, he was a son of the late Park R. and Helen M. (Anderson) Yoder.

Sam began his career as a plumber at the young age of 15. His dedication and hard work led him to Staiman Recycling Corporation, where his skills lead him to become a Master Plumber. He retired from the Plumbers and Pipefitters UA Local 520, leaving behind a legacy of craftsmanship and commitment, including the fountain he installed in front of the Courthouse.

A man of faith, Sam was a member of the former Mater Dolorosa Church and later St. Boniface Catholic Church, where he served as an usher. His weekly visits to Wegmans for coffee club with close friends and former coworkers were a highlight of his social life. Sam was a gifted storyteller, captivating anyone who would listen with his tales and anecdotes. His interests extended to gardening, a hobby that brought him immense joy and tranquility.

Sam's kind and gentle spirit was a beacon of light to his family. He enjoyed, his granddaughter, Sheree, taking him anywhere he wanted to go as his desire to go for car rides, as a testament to his adventurous spirit. He also had a fondness for the local farmers market, where he enjoyed perusing the fresh produce and goods every Wednesday.

Surviving in addition to his wife are three children, Samuel C. Yoder (Teresa) of Richmond, VA, Melody A. Williamson (Joseph) of Williamsport, and Nicholas P. Yoder (Rhonda) of New Columbia; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dolly Toombs and Ressie Harding (Kenneth); and a daughter-in-law, Jia Zhang Yoder.

Along with his parents, Sam was also preceded in death by a son Anthony C. Yoder, a daughter Lisa L. Ross; three brothers; and three sisters.

A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family in St. Boniface Cemetery, Williamsport.
