Ronald E. Harer, 78, of Roaring Branch died surrounded by family Saturday, June 22, 2024 at UPMC Williamsport.
Born February 24, 1946 in Williamsport he was a son of the late Edwin "Ebby" and Kathryn (Yaggie) Harer.
A proud graduate of Liberty High School class of 1964, Ron's work ethic was evident from an early age. He dedicated his life to farming his family’s land, Edmont Farm, a passion that he cultivated with every sunrise. His commitment to agriculture was recognized when he was honored with the prestigious Keystone Farmer degree from the Future Farmers of America (FFA). Ron also excelled in cattle showmanship and could often be found demonstrating his impressive ability to present and handle cattle. Additionally, he was a skilled artificial inseminator, a testament to his vast knowledge of cows and his keen interest in the well-being of livestock. He was a member of the PA Holstein Association and East Point Ebenezer Church.
Beyond his agricultural pursuits, Ron's intellect shone through his affinity for numbers and statistics, a skill he applied in various aspects of his life. His love for sports was evident as he spent many years coaching and refereeing basketball, sharing his knowledge and enthusiasm with young athletes. In his younger days, he was an active bowler and baseball player, demonstrating his athletic abilities and competitive spirit.
In his later years, Ron found joy in traveling the countryside in his side by side, exploring the beauty of nature and the freedom of the open road. His presence was a bright spot in the lives of many, always ready with a joke or a captivating story. He will be dearly missed by those he leaves behind.
Surviving are four children, Eddie Harer (Penny) of Roaring Branch, Angela Mathews (Scott) of Clover, SC, Tracey Harer (Kristen) of Muncy and Tim Harer (Jenn) of Williamsport; six grandchildren, Tyler (Hannah), Sean, and Ryann Upham, Grayson, Jonah, and Norah Harer; and a sister, Jeannie Banks (Bill) of Montoursville.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.
