Robert Brobson Obituary

Robert C. Brobson, “Bob” to his friends and family, passed away peacefully at the age of 80, with family at his side in the care of The Williamsport Home on February 13, 2025.  Bob was born in Philadelphia on July 10, 1944, the youngest son of the late Alfred Daubert Brobson Sr. and Virginia Catherine (Webb) Brobson.

At the age of 17, Bob enlisted in the United States Air Force and served honorably on active duty from 1961 to 1965.  He then began an over three-decade career in law enforcement.  Bob was most proud of his 27 years of service with the Pennsylvania State Police, retiring at the rank of Lieutenant in 1992.  It was upon graduating from the academy in September 1965 that Bob was assigned to Troop F Headquarters in Montoursville, where he met his future wife, the late Patricia “Pat” (Hendricks).  They would make Montoursville their home for the entirety of their 57 years of marriage.

Bob valued education. While working full-time and raising a family with Pat, Bob earned a bachelor’s degree from what is now known as Commonwealth University—Mansfield and a master’s degree from California State University, Long Beach.  When his children were younger, Bob would get extra exercise running up and down sports fields as a volunteer soccer coach and referee with AYSO.  Later, he enjoyed an occasional round of golf and traveling with his wife and friends to Hawaii, Florida, Myrtle Beach, and Aruba.  He also served his community as an elected borough councilman.

Of all the hats Bob wore throughout life—son, brother, airman, trooper, chief, husband, and father, it was the role as “Poppy” to Rhiannon, Rhiallie, Claire, Will, Rhandie, Stella, Grace, Gabe, and Chloe that gave him the most joy. He would not be denied any opportunity to shower them with his attention, love, and the more than occasional trip to the toy store.  Going to Poppy’s house for a visit was always a special treat.

Bob’s legacy lives on through his three children: Virginia Jessell (Randy) of Loyalsock, Robert Brobson II (Jill) of Chicago, and the Honorable P. Kevin Brobson (Lauren) of Harrisburg and his nine grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, John Brobson (Doris) of Summerfield, Florida. Bob was preceded in death by his wife Pat, by 364 days, and his brother, Alfred D. Brobson, Jr.

Services will be held privately. Arrangements entrusted to Sanders Mortuary. Online condolences may be made on Bob’s memorial page at www.SandersMortuary.com
