Robert L. Baker

Robert L. Baker, 84, of South Williamsport, passed away Monday, April 6, 2026 at the Williamsport Home with his loving family by his side. He is survived by his wife, Clara E. (Scarborough) Baker, whom he married August 16, 1958, and together shared 68 years of laughter and love.

Born January 16, 1942, in Williamsport, he was the son of the late Ernest E. and Kathryn (Schoffstall) Baker.

Robert was a 1960 graduate of Williamsport Area High School and spent his career as a mechanic for the former Textron; later retiring from Avco after over 39 years in the business.

He was a proud member of the Zion Trinity Church. Robert enjoyed hunting, fishing, and riding his motorcycles, and he treasured the peace and satisfaction that came from spending time outdoors.

Above all else, Robert was a simple guy who loved his wife and family deeply. A good dessert, a warm conversation, and time spent with people he cared about were among the things that made life meaningful to him.

In addition to his wife, Robert is survived by four children, Susan Fetzer (Mike), of Avis, Christine Lyerly (Bryan), of FL, Teresa Conderman, of NY, and Bobbi Jo Swisher (Jeremy), of Hughesville; six grandchildren, Kaila, Elliot, Abby, Evan, Ian, and Ryan; two great-grandchildren, Matthew and Riley; and three siblings, Bonnie Bunce, Susan Furman (Jack), and Kathy Furman (Max).

Along with his parents, he was predeceased by a grandson, Daniel Getgen; and two brothers, William and Dean Baker.

Robert’s family will host a celebration of life at a later date.
