Reta Lefever Obituary

Reta Mae Lefever, 84, a cherished sister and aunt, passed away peacefully July 23, 2025.

Born November 26, 1940, to Leander and Ruth (Bortner) Lefever, Reta was a lifelong resident of York.

She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church with a steadfast faith. While never physically being able to work, her life was simple yet balanced by family and her personal interests. She had her own unique style, always well-dressed, with matching jewelry and a scarf. An avid reader, Reta found pleasure within the pages of countless books. Her love for horse racing and football provided not only entertainment but also a way to connect with friends and family over shared passions.

She was a one-of-a-kind aunt who adored her nieces and nephews, treating them with the same love and attention as if they were her own children. Family gatherings always included her baked goods or cheese balls. Her green thumb was evident in her nurturing care of her flower gardens full of color.

Reta's final years were enriched by the special care and attention she received from her nieces Deb Anderson (Barry) of Dover and Janet Setzer (Doug) of York, along with her nephew, James Becker (Susan) of Red Lion, and their families. Their devotion to Aunt Reta was a beautiful reflection of family love.

Her departure from this world leaves behind her beloved sister, Louise Chenoweth of York, along with 24 nieces and nephews and numerous great-nieces and nephews, who will forever cherish her memory.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers: Elwood, Leroy, Phillip, David, and Glenn Lefever; and two sisters, Janet Leipensberger, and Linda Heidler.

A graveside service to honor Reta will be held 2 p.m. Friday, August 1 at Mt. Zion Cemetery, 3101 Deininger Rd. York, PA.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Reta’s name to Zion Lutheran Church, 2215 Brandywine Lane York, PA 17704.
