Nelson Clark Livermore, S.Sgt (retired), 104, native of Williamsport, PA, was called home to the Lord on Tuesday, June 3, 2025.
Born on his family’s farm in Loyalsock Township on October 31, 1920, son of Albert L. and Helen M. (Baltzer) Livermore, Nelson lived his life rooted in the motto of God, Family, Country. A devoted follower of Christ, he was a faithful member of the Balls Mills United Methodist Church. Nelson stood for nearly a century as a strong, loving, faithful patriarch to his family who remained by his side through the end. Nelson, a graduate of Hepburn Township High School, married Jacqueline (Craven) Livermore in 1940 and together they shared 64 blissful years until her passing in 2004. He bravely enlisted in the Army on November 1, 1943. He attended Officer Training School in Carlisle, PA and was assigned as a tail gunner to the 402nd bomb squadron, 502nd bomb group, 315th wing stationed in Guam during World War II. Wounded while engaged in an aerial fight on July 22, 1945, Nelson was awarded the Purple Heart in addition to the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, the World War II Victory Medal and the Bronze Service Star. In writing about his experience many years later, Nelson said, “I Thank God every day that I was only wounded and was able to come home safely after the war and along with my saintly wife, enjoyed the best that America The Beautiful, under God, had to offer.” After the war, Nelson, who had a passion for learning and doing, steadily grew in his professional life eventually becoming an entrepreneur in several areas including home building, sales, and mobile home park ownership. He was a member of the Laurel Lodge Hunting Club, Warrensville, PA, for many years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, nature, playing cards, reading, socializing, and time with his family. PapPap as he was affectionately known, was the quiet strength in his family, a living piece of history, and a reminder of resilience, wisdom, and grace. The world changed so much during his lifetime, but his love for family, his stories, and his sense of humor never wavered.
Surviving is his daughter, Nancy M. Snyder (Lee); a daughter-in-law, Katherine; four grandchildren, Greggory Snyder (Theresa), Kevin Snyder (Jennifer), Faith Livermore (Jonathan), and Douglas Livermore (Erin); eight great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild due to arrive in early July.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his son, Dean N. Livermore and his siblings, Albert, Marian, Clarence, Eleanor, Carl, Daniel, and Helen.
