Mary Kathryn Zimmerman, 84, of Williamsport, passed away on December 24, 2024 at UPMC of Williamsport. Born December 24, 1940, she went home to be with her savior peacefully on her birthday.
Mary was born in Milton where she lived for the majority of her life. This is where she raised her family. After her children were of school age, Mary began working at The West Company, in Montgomery, from the mid 1970’s until she retired in 2005. She later moved to South Williamsport and then Williamsport.
Mary had a green thumb, with a special knack for growing towering rose bushes and full tomato plants. But she was especially proud of her flowering cactuses, some of which she had been able to keep alive since the 1980’s. She enjoyed having a pet dog over the years as well as parakeets. She was a collector of dolls, especially those from a by-gone era. Mary was a very good cook and liked cooking for her entire family for the holidays—most enjoyably at Christmas. She enjoyed eating out at Cracker Barrell, shopping at Sam’s Club, and going to the Street of Shops with her daughter. She loved gospel music and the old hymns sung by the Gaithers. For several decades, Mary had enjoyed spending time with her sister, Betty, at her ceramic shop in White Deer. Most recently, she loved sitting on the swing on her new covered porch where she could enjoy the breeze in the shade, hang flower baskets, and feed the birds. She was known as “Grammy” and “Mimi” by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren—all of whom she cherished.
Mary was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She was the daughter of the late Leroy and Magaret (Hulsizer) Erb, of Milton. She was a sister to the late Betty (Hulsizer) Myers, of White Deer. She is survived by three children, Randall Zimmerman and partner Becky Fitzwater, of Milton, Scott Zimmerman and wife Beth (Roeder), of Mifflinburg, and Kathy (Zimmerman) Hakes and husband Ken, of Williamsport; grandchildren Ashley (Zimmerman) Kitchen, of Renovo, Linzey (Zimmerman) Woolsey and partner Derrick Adair, of Landisburg, Katlynn (Zimmerman) Reed and husband Philip, of Milton, Lucas Zimmerman, of Pennsylvania Furnace, Brian Zimmerman and wife Kayla (Kline), of Montoursville, Eric Zimmerman, of Mifflinburg, Sadie Zimmerman, of Mifflinburg, and Amber Hakes, of Williamsport; nine great-grandchildren--the last of whom was born four days before her passing. She is also survived by brother Quintin Erb and wife D’Aracy (Heimbach), of Milton.
A visitation will be held at 10 AM, Tuesday, December 31, 2024 at Sanders Mortuary, 821 Diamond St., Williamsport. A funeral service, led by The Rev. Dennis Zimmerman, will begin at 11 AM followed by interment at Twin Hills cemetery, Montoursville.
Memorial contributions may be made in Mary’s name to Christian Church of Cogan Station, 5904 Lycoming Creek Rd., Cogan Station, PA 17728.
