Mary Lou Tompkins, 86, of Williamsport, died peacefully Thursday, October 31, 2019 at the Williamsport Home. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 68 years, G. Howard Tompkins on December 11, 2018.
Born June 8, 1933 in Williamsport, she was a daughter of the late Josiah and Suzanne (Eck) Ryder.
Mary Lou graduated from St. Mary’s High School and worked as the C.C. D. Coordinator at the former Ascension Church. She was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Parish and the former Ascension Church. Mary Lou was active in volunteering through Hospice and the Community Arts Center. She enjoyed knitting, gardening, and spending time with her family.
Surviving are her three children, Thomas L. Tompkins (Darlena) of Linden, Mary Anne Kilgus of South Williamsport, and Timothy F. Tompkins (Robin) of Cogan Station; a daughter-in-law Darlene Tompkins, of Hagerstown, MD; seven grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and a great-great grandson.
In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by a son Howard Christopher Tompkins in 2015, son-in-law, Larry Kilgus on June 5, 2019 and sister, Emily Colt.
A funeral service to honor the life of Mary Lou will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 5, 2019 at Sanders Mortuary, 821 Diamond St. Williamsport, with the Rev. Brian VanFossen officiating. Burial will follow in Wildwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Tuesday at Sanders.
