Mary Margaret Thomas, 91, of Loyalsock Township, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at Rose View Nursing Center. She was born on April 10, 1935 in Bastress Township, to the late Joseph and Margaret (Dincher) Steppe.

She married the love of her life, Robert L. Thomas on May 14, 1956. Together they shared 45 wonderful years before his passing on February 25, 2002. Their greatest blessing was family, who survive and will forever cherish the unconditional love and kindness they gave so freely.

Surviving are two sons, Richard "Rick" L. Thomas (Lonna) and Frederick "Fred" J. Thomas (Lucinda "Cindy"); three grandchildren, Brent, Elysha (Zack) Manns, and Zachariah “Zack”; two great-grandchildren, Ryleigh Jo and Olivia Jane Manns; a sister, Joann Dawson; and brothers, Clarence Steppe and Paul Steppe; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Joe and Ralph Steppe.

Mary worked for the Loyalsock Township School District for 26 years, serving in the cafeteria as head cook for several of those years. She was devoted to helping the children with a caring nature and warm smile. She carried that same spirit into her 40 years of service as an election poll worker where her kindness and welcoming smile became hallmarks of her dedication to her community of the first ward of Loyalsock Township. She served with this same devotion as a loyal member of the Eagle United Methodist Church until its closure after which she transferred her membership to Heshbon Park United Methodist Church.

Mary enjoyed life! She loved gardening and harvesting alongside her husband and sons. Her flower gardens were beautiful. Her Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter dinners were always a cherished tradition for family and friends. Cooking, baking, especially pies (which were perfect), candy making, and reading were her favorite things to do. She loved sharing all of these with anyone who wanted to learn how to do them especially her grandchildren. Her legacy of teaching, kindness, and generosity will be cherished by all who knew her.

A memorial service to honor Mary's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 7 at the Newberry Church of Christ, 2101 Linn Street, Williamsport. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday.
