Mary Sauers Obituary

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the Faith.”  2 Timothy 4:7

Mary joined her Lord and Savior and her husband Jim, March 11, 2020, with her family by her side. She was born June 29, 1937 in Williamsport to William H. and Mary A. (Grove) Kohler. She attended Williamsport schools.

Throughout her childhood, she was nurtured and loved by her Grandmother, Inez Grove, who was responsible for her attendance at Central Baptist Church and her love of God. Mary accepted Christ as her Savior at a very young age. It shaped her to become a person of Godly influence. She was attending Buchanan Baptist Church at the time of her death.

Mary met the love of her life, James A. Sauers, Sr. and they married October 10, 1953. It was an instant connection and bond which lasted 63 years, until his death, November 12, 2016.

As an accomplished seamstress, Mary worked at several sewing establishments around the Williamsport area. Her favorite sewing was for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She co-founded Tiremasters in 1985, working side by side with Jim to make his dream come true. Their legacy is still owned and operated by the 2nd and 3rd generations.

God entrusted Mary with a lot of adversity throughout her life. Each day she fixed her eyes on Jesus, turned from the circumstances that could discourage, and found peace. Placing her life in His care, Mary overcame any obstacle placed before her and rested in His loving presence.

With Jim by her side, they raised 8 sons and daughters, which were her most cherished moments. Mary’s children were fortunate to inherit her love of music. Her coaching and influence made it possible for the family to share the Gospel through song. She never missed a performance. She encouraged, supported and inspired at every event.

She was happiest when she had a baby on her lap. A hug was her favorite hello and her only way of saying “see you later”. Florida was a favorite winter getaway during retirement. Jim and Mary enjoyed gathering with special friends from across the United States.

Mary is survived by 6 daughters and 2 sons. Yvonne (Mel) Bower and Amy (Dan) Hartzell both of Watsontown, Pamela Sauers of Hobe Sound, Florida, Kathy (Robert) Foust of Montoursville, Denise (Lynn) Barner of Nippenose, Michelle (Wayne) Elliott of Allenwood, James Jr. (Kim) of Williamsport and Mark (Lori) of Washington State, 14 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren.

Mary was predeceased by her husband, her parents, brother William H. Kohler and granddaughter Mary Ellen Bower.

“We will smile because you lived ~ we will talk and ponder and see all you have left and the love that you shared ~ we will cherish your memory and let it live on”
