Martin E. “Butch” Palmatier, 76, of Williamsport, died peacefully, Friday, March 2, 2018 at his home. Surviving is his wife of 52 years the former Linda Williamson whom he married June 11, 1966.
Born December 26, 1941 in Williamsport, he was a son of the late Martin H. and Anna R. (Moyer) Palmatier.
He was a 1959 graduate of South Williamsport High School and a 1964 graduate of Lycoming College. Mr. Palmatier retired from Muncy School District after 34 years of teaching in public education. During the summer, Butch worked part time for the Williamsport Parks and Recreation and helped initiate and develop the start of Home-Made Days at Brandon Park. He also worked part-time at Sanders Mortuary for many years.
Growing up Butch enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing, and later in life enjoyed traveling with his family especially “out West”. His life was spent as a husband, father, grandfather, brother, teacher, friend, and many other great things. His life was full and he was lucky to receive a double lung transplant at UPMC 7 years ago.
In addition to his wife Linda, he is survived by three children, Nan Parks (Scott) of Reading, Shan Palmatier (Alison) of Silver Spring, MD , and Valerie Lundy (Bill) of Montoursville, seven grandchildren; and three siblings, Joy Bailey and Sue Crowe both of Banning, CA, and Sue Houser (Charlie) of Shamokin.
Forever the teacher, Butch will be donating his body to UPMC for other students to study. A memorial service to honor the life of Butch will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, March 10 at Sanders Mortuary 821 Diamond St. A visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. Saturday at Sanders.
