Martha Berrones, 51, a cherished soul known for her loving heart, kind spirit, and friendly demeanor, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, September 16, 2024.
Born March 3, 1973 in Brownsville, TX, she was a daughter of the late Ignacio Sr. and Juana (Martinez) Berrones.
She was a graduate of Homer Hanna High School in Brownsville, Texas. Martha lived a life rich with the joys of simple pleasures and the warmth of family and friends.
Martha's passion for gardening was evident in the vibrant blooms that adorned her garden. She found solace in her daily walks, often seeking out new trails that offered a fresh perspective on the beauty of nature. The beach was one of Martha's favorite destinations. Her love for the ocean was paralleled only by her love for cooking, especially when it involved preparing meals for her beloved family. Her kitchen was a hub of warmth, laughter, the tantalizing aroma of her delicious creations, and the sound of her beautiful voice as she sang whatever song came to mind.
Family was the cornerstone of Martha's life, and she cherished every moment spent with her grandchildren. Whether it was embarking on DIY projects, planning small adventures, or simply enjoying their company, Martha's presence was a source of joy and inspiration to her family.
Martha's creative talents shone brightly through her sewing and knitting, crafting beautiful pieces that were both practical and heartfelt. She was a devoted fan of IDTV, "Criminal Minds," and "Law and Order SVU". Happy hour with her friends was a treasured ritual for Martha. It was a time for laughter, sharing stories, and a testament to her ability to nurture and maintain lifelong friendships.
Surviving are her children, Juan Garza, Jacqueline Garza, Nicholas Stevens, and Derek Stevens (Safiyah Muhammad), all of Williamsport; four grandchildren, Julian Garza, Antonio Garza, Mia Garza, and Amora Berrones; a beloved twin sister, Dalilah Berrones of Brownsville, TX; three brothers, Fernando Berrones of Williamsport, Cosme Berrones (Brenda Dennis) and Ignacio Berrones, Jr., both of San Antonio, TX; her husband, William Stevens; a sister-in-law, Roseanne Niabes; special aunts, Gloria and Rachel Berrones; her nieces and nephews, Ezmi, Vanessa, Cosme Berrones, Aries and Kaiya Herbert, Kassandra Niabes, and Brianna Vasquez; and a large circle of extended family members and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Jorge Chavez.
A funeral service to honor Martha’s life will be held 6 p.m., Thursday, September 19 at Sanders Mortuary, 821 Diamond Street, Williamsport. The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until the time of service, Thursday at Sanders Mortuary.
