Margaret L. "Peggy" Bird

Margaret L. Bird, affectionately known as Peggy, passed away with family by her side, on Friday, December 6, 2024, at Geisinger in Danville. Born on May 13, 1926, in Williamsport she was a daughter of the late Harold W. and Sophie M. (Dinn) Hope. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 62 years Waldo R. Bird on Jan. 5, 2008.

Peggy was a proud graduate of the Williamsport High School Class of 1945. She spent 20 years at Brozman’s, followed by many years at GTE-Sylvania.

Peggy was a woman of strong faith and was a dedicated member of First Church, Williamsport, and previously High Street United Methodist Church. Her involvement in various church activities, including singing in the church choir, was a testament to her commitment to her faith and community.

In addition to her faith, Peggy had a variety of interests. She loved being with her family, creating countless memories they will cherish forever. Peggy was always excited to share her birthday with her loved ones at Don Patron’s, wear the birthday sombrero and eat great Mexican food. She was an avid reader, and had a sweet tooth, especially for peanut butter ripple ice cream and pie. She and her soon-to-be husband enjoyed their time as members of the Mountain Beach Canoe Club in Williamsport. She loved camping at the beach with her family every summer. After their retirement they enjoyed spending winters in Florida for many years. Peggy cherished her furry companions, golden retriever Sabre and shih-tzu, Rudy Valentino.

She is survived by her daughters, Virginia A. Couveau-Case of Atlanta, GA, Bonnie M. Bird Maddox of Cogan Station, and Lori H. Bird of Williamsport, and a son Lynn V. Bird of Colorado; 17 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, 16 great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her two daughters, Donna E. Andrews and Constance I. Bird, four siblings William D. Hope, John W. “Jack” Hope and Mary Elizabeth Hope, and an infant brother.

A viewing will be held from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m., Friday, December 13, 2024, at First Church, 604 Market St., Williamsport. Funeral services to honor Peggy’s life will be held 2 p.m. Friday, December 13, 2024, following the viewing at the church.

Inurnment will be held at a later date at Wildwood Cemetery.
