Linda Lois Huyck (née Lapp) of Nisbet, PA, passed away on April 15, 2025, wrapped in love and surrounded by family. Born on May 19, 1947, in Antes Fort, PA, Linda lived a life full of laughter, love, and just enough sass to keep things interesting.
A 1965 Lock Haven High School graduate, Linda spent 42 dedicated years working at Shop Vac, where she was known for her strong work ethic and forklift driving skills. It was there that she met her beloved John Huyck. The two were married on May 25, 1985, and built a life and a home together in Nisbet, surrounded by blooming flowers, trees, and well-fed birds (plus some very persistent squirrels).
Linda was quick to laugh, feisty, fiercely hardworking, and endlessly generous. She deeply loved slot machines and could tell you in seconds whether one was hot, cold, or about to pay out. She was a casino VIP who racked up free nights and a treasure trove of swag. She hit several jackpots in her time and was thrilled when she hit it big.
Linda loved making homemade strawberry jelly and loved even more teaching her daughter and granddaughters how to make it, passing down a simple, sweet legacy. She made her famous coleslaw for John, her signature baked beans just the way Paula liked them, Christmas cookies to feed an army, and pies for everyone else “just because.” Her food wasn’t fancy. It was thoughtful, made with care, and always meant to bring people together.
As a softball coach to her daughter’s team, she led them to several championship games and was once nominated for a Sun Gazette coaching award by the very girls she coached.
Linda also had a competitive streak regarding card games and Scrabble. She loved playing and was famously skilled at sandbagging, leaving others impressed and playfully frustrated. In her younger years, she was an avid bowler.
She loved woodworking and making hand-crafted oak furniture. Birdwatching with John, feeding the backyard doves, and yelling at squirrels trying to hijack the feeders were daily joys. Her collection of witty t-shirts brought smiles and laughs wherever she went.
Her greatest treasures, though, were her family. She is survived by her devoted husband, John of Nisbet, PA; her daughter, Paula Moore (Doug) of Boonsboro, MD; and stepdaughter, Kim Huyck of Middletown, PA. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Kelsey Moore (Thomas Cleary), Lauren Moore Htay (Luke Htay), Cody Metzger, and Justin Eutin (Alexandra), and great-grandmother to Roxas. Her sister and dearest friend, Pat Lapp Cupp, will miss her more than words can say. Linda is now joyfully reunited with her beloved Grammy, Elizabeth Ellen Gottschall Lapp, who helped raise her, and her favorite sister-in-law, Shelby Rhinehart, whose presence and love truly transformed Linda’s life.
A private family service will be held. Donations in her name may be made to Susquehanna Health Foundation c/o Home Care & Hospice or The Gatehouse, 1001 Grampian Blvd., Williamsport, PA 17701 or online at https://www.susquehannahealthfoundation.org/ways-to-give/make-a-donation
