Lawrence Hostrander, Jr. Obituary

Lawrence Henry Hostrander, Jr., affectionately known as Hoss to his family, friends and the community, passed away Friday, May 10, 2024 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

Born December 30, 1955 in Williamsport, he was a son of Lawrence H. Sr., and Jean (Paucke) Hostrander.

He attended St. Joe’s Catholic School and graduated in 1974 from Williamsport Area High School. The 2023 Webb Weekly article labeled Hoss as the “Workhorse”, a star fullback on the high school football team and an outstanding wrestler going from one season to the next bringing the Millionaires to victory.

Hoss grew up with a strong work ethic delivering the Sun-Gazette as a teenager. He attended W.A.C.C., where he learned the skills that led him to work as an accomplished welder for over 40 years; beginning with Williamsport Fabricators and retiring from High Steel Structures here in Williamsport in 2015.

Coming from a large family he always enjoyed time with his brother, sisters, nieces, nephews and cousins. He enjoyed hunting and working the family farm J & L Ranch, in Linden. For many years, Hoss was a member of the local American Legion and Moose Lodge.

Surviving are his wife, Carol (Wagner) Hostrander; two children, Miranda Beyer (William) of Rose Hill, KS and Matthew Hostrander (Melissa) of Perkasie;  three step-children, Matthew Paulhamus (Victoria) of Cogan Station, Megan Paulhamus (Shawn Fillman), and Heather Paulhamus (Matt Mathias) all of Williamsport; grandchildren, Bryant, Melody, Sydney, Tucker, Jacob, Elsie, Grant, Bella, and Peyton; a brother, Michael Hostrander (Karen); four sisters, Joann Chappell (Steve), Teresa D’Alena (Francis), Jean Hoffman, and Kelly Springman (Mark); and many loving nieces and nephews who affectionately knew him as Uncle Wee-Wee.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Kathleen Williams.

As per his wishes, no services will be held.
