Lauralyn Weisel, 63, passed away at the Gatehouse on July 24, 2026, following a courageous battle with brain cancer. She is survived by her loving husband of 41 years, Scott.

Lauralyn was born on October 17, 1962, in Williamsport, PA to Larry and Carol (Greene) Bender.

Lauralyn was a 1980 graduate of Williamsport High School and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Nyack College in 1984. Her college years held some of her favorite memories and dearest friends.

Lauralyn dedicated her life to teaching. Lauralyn and Scott taught for three years at a mission school in Brazil with Ethnos 360 (formally New Tribes Mission). After teaching in Brazil, Lauralyn taught for many years at Hope Preschool and Memorial Baptist Christian School and then went on to substitute teach in many of the local school districts, mainly South Williamsport.

Lauralyn was heavily involved in ministry at her church, Community Baptist in Montoursville. She led the children’s choir, Messiah’s Messengers, for eight years and more recently helped with the special need’s ministry, Joyful Abilities.

Lauralyn was an accomplished flautist and used that talent to serve the Lord for many years. In addition, she also taught piano lessons.

Surviving in addition to her husband are her children, Caralyn and Cameron, both of South Williamsport, her mother, Carol Bender, a sister, Lisa Parker (Jonathan) of Arlington, Texas, a brother, Michael Bender (Lyndsay) of Chester Springs, Pennsylvania, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins whom she loved dearly. Lauralyn was a devoted, wife, mother, friend, and teacher. She will be missed greatly by all who knew her.

Lauralyn was preceded in death by her father, Larry Bender, in 2023.

A viewing will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, July 30, at Sanders Mortuary, 821 Diamond Street, Williamsport. A funeral honoring the life of Lauralyn will be held 10 a.m., Friday, July 31, at Community Baptist Church, 1853 PA-87, Montoursville, with graveside service to follow at Twin Hills Memorial Cemetery in Muncy.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Lauralyn to Community Baptist Church. Please note "In Memory of Lauralyn" in the memo line, with donations designated to the Joyful Abilities Ministry, a ministry that held a special place in her heart.

Lauralyn’s family would like to thank UPMC Family Hospice and Hillman Cancer Center in Williamsport and Pittsburgh for their excellent care and support during the last weeks of Lauralyn's life.
