LaRue Alfred Allen, of Trout Run, passed away on Sunday, November 19, 2023, at The Gatehouse. He was the loving husband to the late Ethel (Edwards) Allen, who passed November 9, 2013.
Born April 23, 1930, in Bloomsburg, PA, he was a son of the late Oscar and Hattie (Sult) Allen. Before retirement, LaRue spent many years working as a carpenter, including building homes for the Lycoming County STEP Program. He was always delighted to put his carpentry skills to work, making many furniture pieces for family and friends. If LaRue was not woodworking, he was helping his loved ones with projects around their homes, or attending services at his church, Steam Valley Bible Church. In the evenings, LaRue enjoyed winding down to Wheel of Fortune or Jeopardy. He was a veteran, who proudly served his country in the U.S. Army.
Surviving are his five children, Edward Allen (Geri) of Selinsgrove, Michael Allen (Judy) of Hinesville, GA, Charles Allen (Carol) of Alpine, NY, Tina Hopkins (Ralph, Jr.) of Roaring Branch, and Kevin Allen of Selinsgrove; one brother, Elmer Allen (Jean), and one sister, Clarissa Ertel (John). LaRue also leaves behind ten grandchildren, Garrett Allen, Jesse Allen, Amanda Shull, Laura Faivre, Anthony Allen, Daniel Davis, Sarah Viera, Cody Hopkins, Jordan Hopkins, and Dustin Hopkins, and many loving great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family.
Along with his parents and wife, LaRue was predeceased by his son, Dennis Allen; three brothers, Robert Allen, Roland Allen, Eugene Allen; two sisters, Beatrice Confer and Ida Kibler; and three grandchildren, Leann Hall, Nancy Bowden and Paul Schweigart.
Funeral services to honor LaRue’s life will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, November 25, 2023, at Sanders Mortuary, 821 Diamond St., Williamsport, with burial to follow at Steam Valley Cemetery, Trout Run.
