Kathleen M. Johnson

Kathleen M. Johnson, lovingly known as Mom and Grammy Kathy, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at UPMC Williamsport, surrounded by her family.

Born on February 15, 1946, in Washington, PA, Kathleen was the beloved daughter of the late Hazel B. (Plants) Samborski and Thomas Knox Jr.

Kathleen dedicated more than half a century to the book community, becoming a true icon in her field. As a valued member of the Brodart family, her work ethic, loyalty, and passion for literature touched the lives of many. Beyond her career, Kathleen was a dedicated leader in several organizations. She served as President of the Brodart Social Club, President of the Penn Laurel American Business Women’s Association after holding roles as Secretary and Vice President, and Treasurer of the Board for the Williamsport Area Management Association (WAMA), where she also served on the Scholarship Committee.

Kathleen drew her strength from her unwavering faith and trust in the Lord. A devoted member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, she cherished the members as her second family and served faithfully as a part of the bus ministry, Sunday school, and choir.

Kathleen also believed in the importance of health and fitness, forming close friendships through her workout routine. But above all, her greatest joy was her family. Some of her fondest memories were made at Knoebels Amusement Park with her children and grandchildren.

She was a proud mother to Ray Johnson (Jennifer Peoples -Johnson), Christine Hicks, and Elizabeth Stokes, and found her greatest joy in time spent with her grandchildren: Brandon Johnson, Kenneth Rowe, Charletta Carlson, Ashton Johnson, Carter Johnson, and Blake Johnson, as well as her beloved great-grandchildren, each holding a special place in her heart.

In addition to her parents, Kathleen was preceded in death by her sister, Elizabeth Knox.

A visitation to celebrate Kathleen’s life will be held on Monday, March 17, 2025, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Sanders Mortuary, 821 Diamond St., Williamsport. A memorial service will be held 12 p.m. Tuesday, March 18 at Emmanuel Baptist Church  1730 Four Mile Drive, Williamsport.

Kathleen will be remembered for the smile she always wore and her genuine investment in the wellbeing and happiness of those she loved.
