Joseph “Joe” M. Mihalo, 80, of Williamsport was greeted by his beloved dog Max at the gates of Heaven on Thursday July 14, 2022.
Born January 25, 1942 in Ashland, PA, he was a son of the late Michael Joseph and Beatrice E. (Smith) Mihalo. Joe graduated from Mount Carmel Area High School in 1959 and continued his education at Temple University School of Pharmacy. He had a strong work ethic, never idle, and loved animals. He worked for The Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company for 15 years, and retired from UGI after 38 years of dedicated service. Joe was a former member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, where he enjoyed singing in the choir, and served in the U.S. Navy.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Nancy J. Mihalo; one daughter, Christine Louise Katzmaier (Paul) of Williamsport; five grandchildren, Nate Katzmaier (Eme,), Jay Katzmaier, and Robert Miller (Mary), all of Montoursville, Brian Katzmaier, of Forest City, and Olivia Katzmaier, of Williamsport, and eight great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind one nephew, Thomas Moleskie of Philadelphia, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, John and Cathy Hill, of Williamsport and their three children, and his special cat, Sassy.
Along with his parents, Joe was also preceded in death by his sister, Madeline Moleskie.
A graveside service to honor Joe’s life will be held Wednesday, July 27, 2022, at 11 a.m. at Montoursville Cemetery, 1401 Broad St., Montoursville, with the Reverend Marianne Brock officiating.
In lieu of flowers, please make memorials in Joe’s name to the Lycoming County SPCA, 2805 Reach Rd., Williamsport, and/or Lycoming Animal Protection Society, 630 Wildwood Blvd., Williamsport. Joe supported both, as animals were dear to his heart.
