John Michael "Mike" Beck

John Michael “Mike” Beck, 75, of Cascade Township, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 16, 2024.

Born on November 4, 1948, he was a son of the late Gregory and Eloise (Bubb) Beck.

Mike was a graduate of Williamsport Area High School class of 1967. After high school, Mike entered the United States Airforce, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant (E-5). He was especially proud of the fact that he had the honor of working in and around missile silos.

After receiving his honorable discharge from the USAF, Mike attended Penn State University, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in agriculture.

Following graduation, Mike worked for the State of Pennsylvania in various roles. His most rewarding role was working for the Vocational and Rehabilitation Department before retiring.

Mike enjoyed the country, what he called “Cascade Living.” He raised cows and managed the property that he so dearly loved. Mike’s passion of travelling to Europe enabled him to take in the history as he could while visiting. He often told stories of the ‘off the beaten path’ sights from each of his trips.

Mike is survived by his sisters, Susan L (Beck) Rook, of Williamsport, Noreen (Beck) Shifflet (Joe) of Tonawanda, NY; a brother, Hobart Beck, also of Williamsport. Mike is also an uncle to many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by a brother, Gregory Beck, his oldest sister, Joan (Beck) Ramin, and two brothers-in-law, Matthew Rook and Edward Ramin.

A private graveside ceremony will be held at the convenience of the family.
