John Hennigan Obituary
John Hennigan, 81, of Woodward Township, passed away, Tuesday, August 4, 2026 at UPMC Williamsport.
Born on November 22, 1944, in Williamsport, he was the son of the late Bruce and Frances (Pfleegor) Hennigan. A 1962 graduate of Williamsport High School, John began a career with the former AVCO, remaining through its transition to Textron, where he retired in 2006 after 43 years of employment.
On May 28, 1966, he married the love of his life, Evelyn (Green) Hennigan, and together they built a wonderful life filled with love, laughter, and countless memories.
Never one to shy away from hard work, John also owned and operated his own garbage route from 1967 until 2010, becoming a familiar and trusted face throughout the community. His dedication to Woodward Township extended beyond his work, as he faithfully served for many years in various capacities, including on the Woodward Township Planning Commission.
John found his greatest joy in life's simple pleasures. He loved spending time hunting, relaxing along the river on his property, visiting county fairs, and cheering on his great-nephew at sporting events and practices. He never passed up a good old Western and looked forward to gathering with family at reunions, where he enjoyed visiting with everyone who walked by.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Evelyn; are his sisters, Helen Thompson and Faith Breen (William) of Williamsport; sisters-in-law, Nancy Hennigan of South Carolina and Carol Hennigan of Cogan Station; and numerous nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Michael Hennigan, Bruce Ezra Hennigan, and Eugene Hennigan; a brother-in-law, Johnny Thompson; and a sister-in-law, Maxine Hennigan.
A funeral service to honor John’s life will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, August 8, at Sanders Mortuary, 821 Diamond Street, Williamsport. Burial will follow in Wildwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of service Saturday at Sanders.
