Joan D. (Winner) Burleigh

Joan D. Burleigh, 79, of Williamsport, passed away Saturday, April 26, 2025 at the Gatehouse surrounded by her family.

Born March 1, 1946, in Lewisburg, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Thelma (Gross) Winner. Joan graduated from Williamsport High School.

She was a vibrant and joyful presence in the lives of all who knew her. A passionate fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Penn State football, and the Williamsport Crosscutters, she found great joy in cheering on her favorite teams. It was at a Crosscutters game that she met the love of her life, and since 2001, she and Don opened their home to many young ballplayers, creating lifelong memories and friendships. Joan loved the excitement of casinos, the charm of Knoebels amusement park, and the magic of Walt Disney World, which she visited an incredible 27 times. She had a true gift for bringing people together, hosting countless family gatherings and parties with warmth and enthusiasm. Always upbeat and full of life, Joan made every moment special, and her spirited nature that was always ready for adventure will be deeply missed.

Surviving is her beloved husband of 22 years, Donald L. Burleigh; her step-children, Robert Burleigh (Barb), Cindy Sanner (Tim), Charlotte Klingle (Jamie), and Mike Burleigh (Beth); five grandchildren, Austin, Paige, Kristle, Miranda, and Katlynn; seven great-grandchildren; a son-in-law, Rodney Starr; a special cousin, Steve Awalt; and many cherished cousins.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Denise Starr, step-son, John M. Burleigh, and brother, Howard Winner.

A memorial service to honor Joan’s life will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, May 3, at Sanders Mortuary, 821 Diamond Street, Williamsport, with her brother-in-law, Captain Duane Burleigh officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of service, Saturday, at Sanders.
