James Strickland Obituary

James Eugene “Jim” Strickland, 79, of Trout Run, passed away Tuesday, July 16, 2024 at home surrounded by family and friends.

Born August 24, 1944, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Rev. James Madison and Lenora Mae (Staley) Strickland.

A “jack of all trades”, Jim approached life with a quiet confidence, rarely seeking the spotlight but always ready with a helping hand.  He was a private man, yet those who knew him experienced his good sense of humor and his gentle wisdom.

He was an artisan, gifted with the ability to transform simple pieces of wood into stunning wooden boats, as well as many other objects of beauty.  Jim enjoyed reading and yard work especially growing garlic.

Jim’s legacy is not only in his wood projects but in the minds of those who knew him.   His memory will be kept alive by the laughter, and stories shared at gatherings.

In addition to his wife, Marcia, Jim is survived by two children, Nickolas Strickland, of ND, and James Strickland, of OK; a daughter-in-law, Dee Strickland; two granddaughters, Sheena Strickland, and Shalea (Ryan) Aikey; five great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Linda Strickland and Sheryl Mayo (Robert); three nephews, Robert Strickland (JoAnn), James Strickland (Neva) and Scott Mayo (Liz); a niece, Christine Turner, as well as several great-nieces, great-nephews, and extended family members.

Along with his parents, he is predeceased by a brother, Robert Madison Strickland.

Friends and family are invited to join a casual gathering to celebrate Jim’s life on Sunday, July 28, 2024, an open house from 1-5 pm at the Trout Run Fire Hall.

For anyone wishing to make a memorial donation, the family suggests the Trout Run Fire Company.
