James E. “Jim” Sander, 75, of Williamsport, passed away Thursday, January 17, 2024.
Born August 14, 1948 in Williamsport, he was the son of the late Luther E. and Naomi C. (Blaker) Sander.
Jim was a proud United States Army veteran, serving valiantly during the Vietnam war. After returning home, he became a cross county truck driver for more than 45 years.
In his later years, Jim was very involved in the community as a member of the Milton VFW, the American Legion of Montgomery, Post 1, and the Veterans of All Eras Post 51 Pa. Jim also participated in parades with his clubs, was a skilled auto mechanic and avid hunter.
Above all else, Jim loved his family and especially his children, who were the light of his life. He was known as a selfless and caring person and will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by four children, Justin Phillips, of NC, Jasmine Phillips, of WI, Kristina “Krissy” and Malinda Shelman, both of Williamsport; seven grandchildren, Kanen, Naveah, Ayrianna, Semaj, Zaleah, Natlja, Remy; one brothers, John Sander; his best friend, Paul; as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Jim was predeceased by three brothers, Raymond Sr., Eugene, and Walter Sander.
A funeral service to honor Jim’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 23 at Sanders Mortuary, 821 Diamond St. Williamsport. Burial will follow in Green Lawn Memorial Park, Montgomery, with military honors. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of service Tuesday at Sanders.
