Jamal Shaw, Sr. Obituary

Jamal C. Shaw, Sr., “Mal”, “Mally-Mal,” “J” 43, of Williamsport left this world all too soon on Saturday, December 25, 2021 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. Surviving is his loving wife, Melodie D. (Carter) Shaw.

Born September 14, 1978 in Philadelphia, he is the son of Tariq and Pamela (Shaw) Mitchell of Williamsport.

Jamal was a graduate of Walnut Hill Culinary School and could often be found crafting delicious meals for his family and friends. He was a man of many talents. In his early years, he learned a variety of construction skills from his uncle Dell that he later honed and developed to the point of becoming an independent contractor.  Jamal moved to Williamsport and he and his father began M&S Contracting, which in 2018 became MANDS Contracting LLC, a family owned and operated construction company that performs all phases of construction, both residential and commercial projects.

Jamal used his skills and talents to not only empower himself; he also mentored many others that were able to acquire sustainable skills that will last a lifetime.  He was a role model to many, demonstrating that hard work, dedication and a solid work ethic builds a legacy.  Jamal was humble regarding his skills and his varied experience but everyone knew he was not to be played with! He was a force to be reckoned with and didn't take S#%T from anyone! He was also one of the most loving and genuine people you ever want to meet. Behind the scenes, he was always looking out for others, helping those in need, donating to this and that, sharing his experience, wisdom and encouragement. He was a man of faith and integrity and above all, he loved his family fiercely.

Jamal loved family gatherings, watching his favorite movies so often that he was able to recite every line! He also enjoyed RV camping and was a member of KOA campgrounds and traveled extensively. He was an avid sports fanatic and celebrated all things PHILLY, Sixers, Flyers and especially his Philadelphia Eagles…before, during and after games, win or lose; he could be heard saying “We bleed green!” He was a member in good standing of the Williamsport Lycoming Chamber of Commerce, KOA Campgrounds and a loyal supporter of the NAACP.

Surviving in addition to his wife and parents are his son (his pride and joy) Jamal C. “JJ” Shaw, Jr. of Williamsport; another son, Jared Short of Philadelphia; a brother, Gerome Shaw; a sister, Tiana “Tootie” Lewis both of Williamsport; an uncle, Bertdel Shaw; two aunts, Winoa Shaw and Adrienne Shine; a niece, Shatara; four sisters-in-law, Nancy Alexander, Alinda Johnson, Paulos Carter-Springfield, and Anita Porter; a brother-in law, Paul Carter, Jr.; his son’s mother, Shauntell Short; his Godmother, “Tink” and his beloved cat, Suzie. In addition he leaves behind a large extended family, including a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and dear friends too numerous to mention.

Jamal was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Krya S. Shaw; his maternal grandmother, Vonger “VeVe” Shaw; and two uncles, Benjamin and Goy Shaw.
