Jack M. Hitesman, 96, formerly of South Williamsport, died peacefully Thursday, April 19, 2018 at Muncy Valley Skilled Nursing Unit.

Born August 30, 1921, in Muncy, he was the son of the late Frederick and Ida (Fry) Hitesman.

He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Ellen (Kuster) Hitesman on January 24, 2006 after 55 years of marriage.

Jack was a 1938 graduate of Muncy High School. He was a United States Army Veteran who served in World War II as a Private 1st Class in the 45th Infantry Division in the European Theater. He received a Purple Heart and Bronze Star for his service to his country. Jack retired as a U.S. Postal Service Clerk.

He was an active member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church. He was a life member of the VFW 7863 Duboistown and a member of the American Legion, South Williamsport. He was a member of the South Williamsport Lions Club, F.&A.M. Lodge No. 707 and the Williamsport Consistory.  He enjoyed fishing, reading, gardening, and scheduling and being part of the 45th Infantry Division reunions. He enjoyed spending time with his family especially attending his grandchildren’s activities.

Surviving are three children David S. (Judi) Hitesman of Picture Rocks, John A. (Cindy) Hitesman of Duboistown, and Sharon K. (Scott) Waters of Loyalsock; six grandchildren, Benjamin (Emily)Hitesman , Nathan and Molly Hitesman, Samantha (Zachary) Waters-Mannino , Meredith and Madeline Waters.

In addition to his parents and wife, Jack was preceded in death by five brothers, Paul, Max, George, Ned and Philip Hitesman and two sisters Marjorie Corson and Marianna Hitesman.

Services will be private at the convenience of the family with burial in Salem Lutheran Cemetery, Selinsgrove.

Memorial contributions may be made in Jack’s name to Susquehanna Health Foundation c/o Susquehanna Home Care & Hospice, 1001 Grampian Blvd. Williamsport, PA 17701.
