Ivan W. Hilner, 75, of Williamsport, passed away Friday, June 20, 2025 at UPMC Williamsport. He is reunited with his late wife of 48 years and the love of his life, Christie L. (Carl) Hilner, who passed away on April 12, 2023.
Born November 9, 1949, in Muncy Township, he was a son of the late Joseph W. and Frieda E. (Michael) Hilner.
Ivan was a 1967 graduate of Hughesville High School. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. After returning home he started a lifelong career at UGI and their former companies, working as a gas surveyor until retirement.
He was an avid fan of wrestling, relishing the thrill of the match. Baseball held a special place in his heart, and he could often be found cheering on his beloved Yankees. On football weekends, you could find him loyally supporting Notre Dame, his enthusiasm never wavering. He could always be found supporting his children and grandchildren at their various sporting events.
One of Ivan's most treasured possessions was his vintage Harley Davidson motorcycle with the roar of the engine and the freedom of the ride bringing a sense of adventure to his life. A lifelong member of the Fern Springs Hunting Camp at White Deer, Ivan found solace and camaraderie in the great outdoors. It was a place where his surly, stoic nature was not only accepted but appreciated, as his peers and family understood that his few words were always meaningful and carried the weight of sincerity.
Ivan is survived by three children, Heather M. Hilner, Kelly A. Hilner, and Kurt R. Hilner (Elaine), all of Williamsport; five grandchildren, Shelby Morales (Fernando), Riley, Emma, and Audrey Hilner, as well as Greyson Hilner-Turner; two great-grandchildren, Averie and Kyler Morales; a sister, Cheryl H. LaClair (John), of Virginia, and brother-in-law, Douglas Carl of Virginia.
In addition to his parents and his wife, Ivan was predeceased by a brother, Eldon M. Hilner.
A funeral service to honor Ivan’s life will be held 10 a.m., Thursday, June 26, at Sanders Mortuary, 821 Diamond St., Williamsport. Burial will follow at Twin Hills Memorial Park with military honors. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., on Wednesday, June 25, at Sanders.
