Irene H. Vargason, a beacon of love and kindness, passed away peacefully on March 6, 2025, at the age of 87 in Trout Run.
Born on March 21, 1937, in Williamsport, Irene was a daughter of the late Mae (McCaslin) Rogers and Charles Rogers, Sr., and the loving wife of the late James Lee Vargason, with whom she shared a lifetime of treasured moments.
Irene dedicated her life to her family and community, embodying the virtues of selflessness and compassion that touched the hearts of all who knew her. She was affectionately known by many as the “Trout Run Babysitter” and found joy in brightening her neighbor’s day with a loaf of her homemade bread. Gardening and canning were two of her favorite hobbies, and she loved passing these skills down to her family. Her nurturing spirit was the cornerstone of the household, creating a warm and welcoming environment where laughter and love were in abundance. She was the beloved mother of Pamela Vargason and Dore Logsdon (Gary Sperle), and she held dear to her heart her late daughter, Jeannie Irene. Irene was a proud grandma to Alan Jenks (Ann Helm), Kara Fontaine, and Krystle Fontaine, eight great-grandchildren and one great great-grandson. She also leaves behind a brother-in-law Lewis Mexiel and several nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.
Along with her parents and husband, Irene was also preceded in death by her siblings Herbert Rogers (Elizabeth), Charles Roger, Jr. (Mary), Stanley Rogers, Sr. (Darlene), Gary Rogers (Ann), Thelm Rogers, Letha Rogers (Ed), Idabelle Eschbach (Charles), and Charlotte Mexiel.
