Gloria Jean Caputo, 84, of Williamsport, died peacefully at home on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, surrounded by her family. She was finally reunited with her husband, William L. “Bill” Caputo, Sr., whom she married on July 15, 1961, and her son, William L. Caputo, Jr., both of whom she greatly missed.
Born in Williamsport, on February 25, 1940 to the late Ransom and Marian (Fox) Hepburn, Gloria was one of 14 children.
Gloria’s greatest joy was her husband and the family they built together. Her 61-year union with Bill was a testament to enduring love and mutual respect. Together, they created a home filled with joy and warmth, welcoming children into their fold, who Gloria cherished above all. As a homemaker, she created a haven where laughter echoed, and innumerable memories were made.
Her nimble fingers worked magic as a skilled seamstress in the workforce in her early years and throughout her years as a homemaker. For most of her life, she worked with her husband in their business, Caputo’s Produce. Gloria's life was devoted to her husband, children, grandchildren, and other family members. Her interests, though varied, always circled back to the well-being and happiness of her family. Caring for others was her natural given gift. She took great pride in knowing that she was instrumental in shaping and molding all five of her grandchildren during their formative years. Her home was affectionately known as “Nanny Camp”. A few of her favorite pastimes in recent years included playing Bingo and card games with family and friends.
Surviving are three daughters, Kimberley Shick (Ken), Karen Plankenhorn (Chip), of Williamsport, and Sharon Tressler (Ted) of Rome, NY; five grandchildren, Felicia Lyle (Ben), Ashley Lewis, Zachary Caputo (Jin), Connie Levan (Alex) and Sara Plankenhorn; seven (7) great-grandchildren, a sister Blanche Digan; and numerous nieces, nephews, and a large extended family.
In addition to her parents, husband, and son, she was preceded in death by two brothers and 10 sisters.
A memorial service to honor the life of Gloria will be held July 20th at The Salvation Army-Williamsport, 457 Market Street. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:15, when a brief Celebration of Life will be conducted.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Gloria’s name to Lycoming County SPCA, 2805 Reach Rd. Williamsport, PA 17701 or St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
