Gary L. Ungard, 78, of Williamsport, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2026, at WeCare of Sycamore.

Born on February 28, 1948, in Williamsport, Gary was a son of the late Arthur Verus Ungard and Vera M. (Derr) Ungard. His journey through life was one of steadfast commitment and joyous involvement. He proudly served his country as a Staff Sergeant in the Army National Guard before retiring from a fulfilling career in maintenance at Bethlehem Steel.

Gary married his wife of 56 years, Nikki Jean (Harris) Ungard, on New Year's Eve of 1969. They were blessed with two wonderful children, Amber J. Fagles and Gary A. Ungard, and two grandsons, Alex Morgan and Avery Dangle, who were the apples of their grandfather's eye. Gary's love extended to his three siblings, Patricia A. Beck, Richard L. Ungard, and Barbara L. Bickel (James), his sister-in-law Mary Ungard, and many nieces, nephews, and amazing friends. Along with his parents, Gary was preceded in death by his four siblings, William F. Ungard, Ronald A. Ungard, Deborah K. Klopp, and Evelyn J. Arroyl.

Gary enjoyed coaching his son and other players for over a decade on the baseball fields of Old Lycoming Twp. He was an avid deer hunter, and remarkable in carpentry, crafting rocking chairs and cradles with love for his grandson. He also enjoyed the adventurous, open-air freedom of riding his Harley Davidson Motorcycle. His joking personality made every gathering a warm and wonderful one. Friends and family knew they could rely on him not only for a brilliant laugh but also for steadfast support in times of need. His presence was a bright light, guiding and uplifting—a beacon of loving, funny, and friendly spirit that will be profoundly missed.

In keeping with Gary’s wishes, there will be no services.
