Gary L. McWilliams, 64, of Cogan Station, f ormerly of South Williamsport, died suddenly, Wednesday, June 10, 2015 on a fly fishing trip in Deposit, New York, with his son Jason and best friend John R. Merrick.
    He is survived by his wife of 28 years Clare (Quinnan) McWilliams.
    Born November 15, 1950, in York, he was a son of Richard L. and Lois E. (Grim) McWilliams, of New Oxford.
    Gary was a graduate of Dallastown High School and received a degree in forestry from Williamsport Area Community College. He was an Army Veteran serving during Vietnam. Gary was owner/operator of Hurwitz Batteries in South Williamsport from 1986-2014. He retired in June of 2014 and proudly handed over ownership to his son Brian.
    He enjoyed fly fishing, hunting and had a passion for traditional archery. He adored his grandchildren. He was an elder of Cogan House Christian Church.
Gary was a life member of the PA Longbow Association, Trout Unlimited, The Professional Bow Hunters Society, VFW Post #7863 Duboistown, New York Bowhunters, Traditional Bow Hunters of Maryland, and United Bow Hunters of PA. He was a member of Christian Bow Hunters of America, Sinnemahoning Sportsman Association, West Caln Sportsman Club, Lycoming Creek Anglers, Lycoming Creek Sportsman, Inc., a Benefactor member of the NRA, West Branch Builders Association, Williamsport/Lycoming Chamber of Commerce, and the Wheel Inn.
     Surviving in addition to his wife and parents are his two sons, Brian R. (Jenna) McWilliams, of Montoursville and Jason L. McWilliams, of Cato, NY, a daughter, Stacy L. McWilliams of Telford, two grandchildren, Alex C. and Raegan B. McWilliams, two brothers, Ted O. (Beth) McWilliams, of York and Jay R. (Joyce) McWilliams, of Windsor, a sister, Crystal K. Stiffler, of York, several nieces and nephews, mother-in-law, Joan Quinnan (John) Flory,  sister-in-laws, Kathleen B. (Byron) Miller and Colleen J. Roe, brother-in-laws, the Rev. Michael F. Quinnan, the Rev. Edward J. Quinnan, and Hal Roe.
    He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Edward M. Quinnan.
    A funeral service to celebrate the life of Gary will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Cogan House Christian Church, 3782 Cogan House Road, Trout Run, PA 17771 with the Rev. Cleveland J. Way officiating. Burial will be in St. Michael’s Lutheran Church Cemetery, Quiggleville. A visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m., Monday at Sanders Mortuary, 821 Diamond St., Williamsport.
     In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Gary’s name to any of the above organizations where he held memberships or to Cogan House Christian Church or Janet Weiss Children Hospital, Geisinger Medical Center, 100 N Academy Ave, Danville, PA 17822
