Gary S. “Sparky” Helminiak, 64, of Jersey Shore died unexpectedly Saturday, October 28, 2023 at Geisinger Medical Center, Jersey Shore.
Born January 26, 1959 in Williamsport, he was a son of Edward Helminiak Sr. and Josephine M. (Wool) Hinaman of Jersey Shore.
Gary was a 1977 graduate of Jersey Shore High School. He worked at HRI, Inc for many years where he was known as Sparky. He was a member of the Polish Club.
He was a devoted family man who cherished every moment spent with his loved ones, especially as his mother’s caregiver the past few years. Gary had a keen interest in family genealogy, a passion that he pursued with dedication and enthusiasm. He held a deep love for the outdoors, often found fishing, hiking, and tending to his garden. Gary’s appreciation for a cold Busch beer was well known among his friends and family. He often enjoyed this simple pleasure while sitting by the campfire listening to his favorite classic rock music, a genre that he held dear to his heart. Above all else, family was his pride and joy. He will affectionately be remembered as a loving son, father, brother and Poppy.
Surviving in addition to his mother are three children, Brittany L. Helminiak – Fink (Adam) of Trout Run, Kelsey Helminiak – Waring of Gillett; and Chad A. Helminiak of Fairfield, CA; four grandchildren, Hudson Fink, Emerson Fink, Everleigh Waring, and Leo Waring; his siblings, Joanne Thomas (Bud), Ed Helminiak (Janine), Ron Helminiak, David Helminiak (Renee), Richard “Rick” Hinaman (LuAnn), and Heidi Matthews (Darren); “his best friend” Otis; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father Edward and step father, Jud R. Hinaman.
A celebration of life for family and friends will be held Saturday, November 4, starting at 1 pm at The Gander Mountain Cabin, 456 Mosteller Road, Montoursville.
