Frank Morrone Obituary

On Monday morning, July 1, 2019, Frank Morrone passed from the arms and hearts of his wife and children to the loving arms of God, following a long and courageous battle with Cardiac Amyloidosis.

Born in Sepino, Campobasso, Italy on December 15, 1947, Frank, together with his family, immigrated to the United States at the age of 8, under the sponsorship of his Uncle Frank Morrone, his namesake.  For the next 63 years Frank called Williamsport home. Over the years he was fortunate enough to be able to return to his beloved homeland several times, but always rejoiced on his return to the U.S.

Frank was passionate about his family, his friends, the outdoors and hospitality; he was warm, kind and generous to a fault. He loved people and enjoyed meeting and mentoring young people- employees became friends and friends became family. He understood that life could be hard and that sometimes people fail themselves more often than they fail others. He had a big heart for people who were broken or lost or maybe just down on their luck. He believed in second chances and sometimes more. He was optimistic about life and enjoyed a good story or laugh. He could buy you a drink or just as easily post your bond. It made no difference to him. If he could help, he did. Through his passion for hospitality, he left his mark on many local establishments, including The Old Corner Hotel, The Pub, The Trail Inn and Smokey Jo’s. He found great joy in the outdoors, whether it be hunting, fishing, going for a ride or sitting on the porch at his farm.

He is survived by his wife, the former Barbara Knittle with whom he celebrated 52 years of marriage on February 11, 2019. He is also survived by a daughter, Joanna Morrone; a son, Francesco Morrone III; daughter-in-law, Melissa Morrone; his much loved grandchildren, Livia Morrone Nash, Victoria Elena Morrone, Maia Cristina Morrone, and Francesco Morrone IV; a sister, Mariannina M. DiSalvo; and a brother Michael Morrone, as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents Cristino and Maria Giuseppina Morrone, and his granddaughter Lia Francesca Morrone.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 12 p.m. Monday, July 8, 2019 at St. Boniface Church, 326 Washington Blvd, Williamsport, with The Rev. William Corcoran officiating. Visitation will be held from 11 am until 11:50 a.m. at church Monday.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests consideration of donations to Susquehanna Health Foundation, c/o Susquehanna Home Care and Hospice, 1001 Grampian Blvd., Williamsport, PA 17701.
