Floyd E. Kerstetter, 75, and Sherry A. Kerstetter, 73, both of Williamsport and married for 53 years, died peacefully days apart. Floyd passed on Wednesday, November 22 and Sherry on Sunday, November 26, 2023 at UPMC Williamsport.
Floyd was born on November 2, 1948 in Williamsport, a son of the late Emerson F. Kerstetter and Katherine L. (Hartman) Kerstetter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy M. Shumacher and Betty J. Bryington.
Sherry was born October 25, 1950 in Williamsport, and was a daughter of the late Harry J. and Sarah E. (Faulkner) Miller. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Floyd E. Kerstetter and her brother Harry J. Miller Jr.
Floyd graduated from Williamsport High School and attended W.A.C.C. before faithfully serving his country. He was a proud United States Marine Corps Vietnam Veteran. He continued to serve his community as a lifetime member of the Marine Corps League, as a founding member of the Young Marines, and as an active member of various other veteran organizations. Floyd was a member of Pine Street United Methodist Church. He worked at Shop-Vac for 32 years until retiring.
Sherry graduated from Williamsport High School. She served her community as a member of the Marine Corps League Auxiliary and as an active auxiliary member of various other veteran organizations. Sherry was a member of Pine Street United Methodist Church. She worked at various nursing facilities and Brodart for many years as a certified nursing assistant until retiring. Floyd and Sherry were both members of the Eldred Township Volunteer Fire Company.
Surviving are three children, Floyd E. Kerstetter, Jr. of Williamsport, Rebecca A. George (Earl) of Montoursville, and Anthony W. Kerstetter (Edie) of Muncy; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; Floyd’s brother, Harry W. Kerstetter and Sherry’s four siblings, Sandra Hauke, Charlotte Gustafson, Charles and Dennis Miller, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service to honor the lives of Floyd and Sherry will be held 4 p.m. Friday, December 1, 2023 at Pine Street UMC, 441 Pine Street, Williamsport. The family will receive friends from 3 p.m. until the time of service on Friday at Pine Street Church. Burial will be held privately in Green Lawn Memorial Park, Montgomery.
In honor of Floyd’s selfless community service, memorial donations are asked to be given in Floyd’s name to the Marine Corp League- Williamsport Detachment #388, 507 Cemetery St., Williamsport, PA 17701. Memorial donations in Sherry’s name may be made to the Salvation Army, 457 Market St. Williamsport, PA 17701.
