Eugene E. Steiger, 96, of Williamsport passed away peacefully Sunday, May 26, 2024. Surviving is his loving wife Carole (Dice) Steiger whom he married September 24, 1964.

Born April 7, 1928 in Williamsport he was a son of the late William E. and Martha Emma (Strunk) Steiger.

Gene graduated from Williamsport High School in 1946 and also attended Williamsport Technical Institute. He was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church.

In 1950 Gene took over Steiger’s Dairy from his dad where he bottled milk and made home deliveries no matter the weather. He was lovingly accompanied on his milk route by several of his children throughout the years before selling the business in 1988.

Gene started a second career in 1988, working for Wally Wentz Florist.  He enjoyed motorcycles, and owned an Indian motorcycle and many Harley Davidsons. Gene got his first motorcycle in his 20’s, and continued to ride into his 80’s. More than anything, Gene loved spending time with his family.

Surviving in addition to his wife are four children, Kimberly Vognet of Riverview, FL, Betsy Steiger of Bensalem, Kathy Steiger of Linden, VA and Gena Steiger of Williamsport; several grandchildren, nieces, nephews, a twin brother E. James Steiger of El Cajon, CA and a sister Nancy Anderson of Orwigsburg.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son William Eugene Steiger in 1962.

A funeral service to honor the life of Gene will be held 12 p.m. Friday, May 31 at Sanders Mortuary, 821 Diamond St., Williamsport. Burial will follow in Wildwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the time of service on Friday at Sanders.
