Ethel M. Rockwell, 88, of Williamsport passed peacefully surrounded by her family on Thursday, October 26, 2023 at home. She was greeted at heavens gate by her beloved husband of 58 years, Carl E. Rockwell, Sr.
Born January 7, 1935 in Williamsport she was a daughter of the late John E. Sr. and Gladys (Shoup) Lawson.
She was a faithful member of Faith Wesleyan Church. Ethel was a beacon of kindness and warmth. Her bright blue eyes, warm smile and open arms of love, welcomed everyone she met.
Her love for animals was legendary. Dogs, cats, birds, all creatures great and small, found a friend in Ethel. She believed in their innocence and their right to love and be loved.
Ethel lived an energetic lifestyle surrounding herself constantly with family and friends. She enjoyed walking, going to the gym, knitting, baking, planning or hosting family events, and bingo with her friends. She was a cherished wife, mother, and meme to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving are six children, Wilhelmina DeSeau of Williamsport, Carl Rockwell, Jr. (Kim) of Trout Run, Wanda Polaski (Ed) of Hiram GA, Karen Banks (Bob) of Jefferson OH, Bernard Rockwell (Rhonda) of McElhattan, and William Rockwell (Nadine) of Duboistown; 11 grandchildren, Michael, Tiffany, Brian, Seth, Ethan, Emma, Rebecca, Andrew, Tabitha, Samantha and Paige; her beloved granddogs and grandcats; 11 great-grandchildren, Kaleb, Abigail, Stephen, Rylee, Alyssa, Luka, Seth Jr., Oaklee, Wyatt, Maeve, and Haven; her siblings, Harriet Scoppa, S. Keith Lawson, and Richard Fullmer; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her siblings, Lucille Shannon, Cletus Lawson, John E. Lawson, Jr., Bernard Lawson, Charles Lawson, and William Lawson.
A celebration of Ethel’s life will be held 12 p.m. Monday, October 30 at Faith Wesleyan Church, 1033 Tucker St., Williamsport. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the time of service Monday at church.
