Edward J. Steinhilper, 80, of Williamsport, passed away on Tuesday, June 18, 2024 at The Gatehouse.
Born February 15, 1944, in Williamsport, he was the son of the late Edward A. and Gertrude E. (Axman) Steinhilper.
Ed graduated from St. Joseph’s High School in Williamsport and The Art Institute of Pittsburgh. He was drafted in 1966 into the Army 101st Airborne Division where he served for 2 years
before becoming a Reservist. For over 30 years, Ed was a respected employee at Avco/Textron Lycoming.
Ed was a regionally recognized watercolor and oil painter. He was a juried member of the Pittsburgh Watercolor Society and the Northshore Art Association in Gloucester, Massachusetts. He won numerous awards for his work throughout Pennsylvania and New York State. For over 40 years, beginning in 1980, Ed shared his love for painting with others- teaching classes through continuing education programs at WACC/ Pennsylvania College of Technology, as the director of the Lycoming Art Students League, and at workshops and retreats in Pennsylvania, New York State, and Massachusetts.
Ed was a naturalist who reveled in the mountains of central Pa., enjoying hiking, fly fishing, and painting en plein air.
He is survived by two children, Judith Steinhilper and John Steinhilper, both of Williamsport, and a brother Michael Steinhilper of Chapin, South Carolina.
