After a full life of loving and nurturing her three children, three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, the soul of Doris Nance Hunsinger, Doris Hunsinger, 87, of Williamsport left her body peacefully Saturday, July 6, 2024 at the Williamsport Home.
Born October 15, 1936 in Colorado Springs, Colorado, she was a daughter of the late Allie Earl and Cora Lena (Westbrook) Nance.
She graduated from Tivy High School in Kerrville, Texas in 1955 and then for a time attended Southwest Texas State Teachers College in San Marcos, where she met the love of her life, Louis Hunsinger Sr. who was in the U.S. Air Force stationed at nearby Gary Air Force Base.
While in college she performed in the college choir and was in several opera productions, including one with noted Metropolitan Opera star, Richard Tucker.
She married her husband, Lou on May 26, 1956 in Austin, Texas. He preceded her in death on December 14, 2020.
Doris was employed for over 20 years as an office clerk for Liberty Mutual.
She was a proud and active member of St. John’s-Newberry United Methodist Church, participated in Bible Studies, Chancel Choir for 66 years and the Voices of Grace Women’s Choir. She was very grateful for her church support system.
Doris was a former Newberry Lioness, a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Old Lycoming Vol. Fire Hall and a volunteer at the Community Arts Center. At one time she was a member of the Williamsport Civic Chorus. She enjoyed, working in her flower beds, taking short walks, coloring, sitting on her back porch, traveling, going for car rides and just enjoying the beauty of nature.
Surviving are two children, Louis E. Hunsinger Jr. of Montoursville and Karen Ertel of Williamsport, a son- in-law Terry Keagle of Linden, three grandchildren Terilynn Keagle, Matthew Ertel, Kenneth Ertel-Hoy (Chuck); and three great grandchildren, Logan, Avery, and Grayson; and her loving brother, Robert Nance (Rebecca) of Gonzalez, Louisiana, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents she was predeceased by her daughter, Kathleen Keagle, a daughter in law Mary (Kingcott) Hunsinger and a son in law Curt Ertel.
A funeral service to honor the life of Doris will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 16 at St. John’s-Newberry United Methodist Church, 2101 Newberry St. Williamsport. Burial will follow in Wildwood Cemetery. A viewing will be held on Monday, July 15 from 5:30-7 p.m. at Sanders Mortuary, 821 Diamond St. Williamsport and Tuesday from 9:45-10:15 a.m. at church prior to the service.
