Donald Ray "Don" ( Mert) Sechrist, 83, of Williamsport , died Wednesday, July 10, 2019 , surrounded by family.
Born on June 19, 1936 at Liberty, PA, he was a son of the late Frank Sechrist and Leona Blanche (Melius) Sechrist Krotzer. He also was preceded in death by his stepfather, Daniel Krotzer; two brothers, Arnold "Barney" Sechrist and Frank "Duke" Sechrist; two sisters, Mildred Brown and Thelma Mase and one grandson, Michael Schultz.
Mr. Sechrist was employed in the lumber and timber industry for the majority of his life. His knowledge and dedication resulted in many lifelong relationships and respect throughout the world-wide hardwood industry.
Donald served in the United States Army from 1955-57 and was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Williamsport, PA.
Donald’s loves were spending time and caring for family, traveling and all sports.
It can be said, without hesitation, that Donald’s greatest passion was Little League baseball. For decades as a coach, his character, guidance and love for the game, influenced many lives. In his later years, he continued to support and follow Little League Baseball.
He was very proud to call Williamsport, the home of Little League Baseball, his home.
Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Shirley Mae (Higley) Sechrist; his children, Donald R. Sechrist, II and wife Brenda of North Carolina, Teresa Dippel, and husband Leonard Peterman of Fallston, MD., and Lori Schultz and fiancé Chip Bosley of Keyser, West Virginia, one brother, Robert Sechrist of Williamsport; nine grandchildren, Donald R. Sechrist, III, Brandon Sechrist, Brooke Sechrist, Matthew Dippel, Alexandra Dippel, David Schultz, II, Amanda Schultz, Cody Martin ,Dalton Martin and five great-grandchildren.
A time of visitation will be held 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday, July 18 at Sanders Mortuary, 821 Diamond Street, Williamsport. A memorial service with a time of sharing to honor the life of Donald will follow at 7 p.m. Thursday at Sanders. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Friday July 19 at St. Joseph the Worker Parish, 702 W 4th St, Williamsport, PA 17701. Burial with Military honors will be held 3 p.m. Friday July 19, in Restlawn Memorial Gardens, LaVale, MD.
