David Wright Obituary

David R. Wright, 61, of Williamsport, passed away on March 24, 2024, at his home.

Born on November 13, 1962, in Montgomery, PA, he was a son of the late Charles Richard and Sylvia (Moll) Wright. David graduated from Montgomery Area High School and immediately began his life career, proudly serving his country in the United States Navy, until retiring in 2003. During his enlistment, David served as Chief Utilitiesman, Seabee (Construction Battalion) and also during wartime of the Iran-Iraq and Gulf Wars. While in service, David was stationed in many overseas countries including Cuba, the Philippines, Bermuda, Diego Garcia, Iceland, Spain, and Japan.

After his retirement from the military, David began working at Rose View Nursing Home, where he always made Veteran’s Day special for the residents. In his spare-time, he enjoyed cooking, gardening, the movies, going to Knoebels with his granddaughter Amelia, and road trip adventures with his family and friends. He also attended as many U.S. Navy air shows as possible and loved visiting DC during its cherry blossom season.

David had a giving soul and found joy in helping others. He volunteered with the Williamsport Emergency Management, and Meals on Wheels where he delivered food on Thanksgiving for 15 years. When the opportunity arose, David loved supporting his community. He participated in “fill the boot” fundraisers for local fire stations, Montgomery Firehouse and Lions Club sauerkraut and Easter egg sales, local church pancake breakfasts, and the annual turkey bingo.

David is survived by his step-mother, Sandra Wright; his sister, Debra (Douglas) Engelman; his daughter, Michelle (Steven) Wallace and their daughter Amelia Wallace; his son, Michael (Ashley) Wright and their daughters Kami and Skyler Wright; his niece, Meghan (Christopher) Young and their daughters Cadence and Madison Young; and his nephew, Corey Engelman (Liliana Matos).

In lieu of flowers, please make donations in David’s name to any of the charities he supported: the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 862, Carnegie, PA 15106; Lycoming County SPCA, 2805 Reach Rd., Williamsport, PA 17701; PA Wounded Warriors Project, P.O.
