Daryl Steven Baker Obituary

Daryl Steven Baker, 74 of Cogan Station, known as "Steve" and "Pappy" to his friends and family, left this world suddenly and unexpectedly on April 15, 2025.

Born May 10, 1950, in Harrisburg he was a son of the late Carrie J. (Feltman) Baker.

Steve was a graduate of Steel High and the Pennsylvania State Police Academy. He served his country proudly in the Army National Guard. His dedication to law enforcement was evident in his 24 years of service as a Pennsylvania state trooper, and firearms instructor, retiring in 1996 as the quartermaster of Troop F, Montoursville. His commitment to his community continued into his retirement, where he worked for several years at Rhone's RV and Sanders Mortuary.

Steve was an active member of various organizations, including the Fraternal Order of Police, NRA, American Legion Post 1, the Baldwin II Commandery #22 Knights Templar, and the Red Cross. As a 32nd degree Mason of Dietrick Lamade Lodge 755 and F&AM Consistory, his fraternal bonds were a source of great pride and camaraderie.

Steve's spiritual life was nurtured at South Williamsport United Methodist Church and Buchanan Baptist Church, where he was known for his deep faith and knowledge of his Lord and Savior.

His interests were as diverse as his personality. Steve was a cherished local Santa Claus, bringing joy and laughter to many alongside his wife, Mrs. Marsha Claus. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed taking motorcycle rides, tinkering with his bikes, and fishing in all bodies of water. Hunting with the Lucky 5 and running his beagles at the club were among his favored pastimes. He loved taking car rides with his beloved dog, Sasha, while listening to a wide genre of music, including the tunes of Bob Marley. A connoisseur of fine pipe smoking, Steve was a man full of quirks with an unfiltered personality that made him a fantastic critic and an interesting conversationalist.

He leaves behind his loving wife of 29 years, Marsha (Morrett) Baker; his son, David C. Baker (Kristen); four step children, Nathan Shipman (Tanya), Jay Shipman (Carol), Rachel Eck (Wayne), and Philip Shipman (Shannon); six grandchildren, Ethan, Riley, Jared (Lindsey), Owen, Hannah, and Taylor; two great-grandsons, Miles and Henry; four sisters, Pam Singer (Robert), Beth Baker, Kimberly McDonald (John), and Susan Stever (Ray), along with several nieces, nephews, extended family members, his dog Sasha and cat Luka.

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his grandson Brenden Shipman.

A viewing will be held from 4-6 p.m. Thursday, April 24 at Sanders Mortuary, 821 Diamond St. Williamsport. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made in Steve’s name to Autism Society of America, 6110 Executive Blvd. Suite 305, Rockville, MD 20852.
