Dale A. Metzker, 84, of Williamsport, passed away peacefully March 10, 2025, at UPMC Williamsport.
Born September 21, 1940, in Roaring Spring, his journey began as the son of the late Andrew and Gladys (Smith) Metzker.
His life was rich with love, notably with his beloved wife, Sally (Barnes) Metzker, who passed just 15 days before him on February 23, 2025. Dale and Sally's enduring partnership spanned 62 years of marriage, filled with countless cherished moments.
Dale was a proud alumnus of the former Williamsport Area Community College, where he later served as a faculty member in the Graphic Communications Department for nearly four decades. His commitment to education and his exceptional ability to inspire students were recognized in 2002 when he received the Master Teaching Award from the Pennsylvania College of Technology the same year he retired. In 2003, he embarked on a retirement career at Sanders Mortuary. For over 20 years, Dale was an integral part of the "A/D" team, assisting with funeral services. His role allowed him to form wonderful friendships and offer comfort to many during their times of loss.
A man of many interests, Dale was known for his meticulous yard, his woodworking talents, his love for Penn State football, and his steadfast support for the LA Dodgers. Dale also delivered sweetness in many ways, from his homemade ice cream and fudge to his pockets being filled with Hershey's kisses, which he generously shared, earning him the affectionate nickname of the man who gave out "Kisses" to all. Dale relished in his breakfast outings with friends, a source of great pleasure and camaraderie.
He was a long-standing member of Saint John's-Newberry Church, where he served as an usher. Dale cherished time spent with his family above all else, whether it was sitting on the porch swing with his wife, Sally, boasting about his children and their spouses or being the consummate "Pap."
Surviving are his children, Steven Metzker (Maureen) of Carlisle, and Susan Gehrum (Dave) of Muncy; three grandchildren, Andrew Metzker (Alexandra) of Covington, Melissa Metzker (Derek Snyder) of Dillsburg, and Sara Gehrum of Muncy. He also leaves behind a sister, Imogene Stayer, and a brother Donald Metzker both of Hollidaysburg as well as several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service to honor the life of Dale will be held 11:30 a.m. Saturday, March 15, at Saint John’s-Newberry, 2101 Newberry St., Williamsport with his pastor, the Rev. Dr. Lori Betsworth officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday at the church. In memory of Dale, those who are comfortable to do so, please feel free to wear Penn State or Life is Good attire. Burial will be held privately in Martinsburg Fairview Cemetery.
