Cecil W. Best, 80, of Linden, passed away peacefully surrounded by family Sunday, May 1, 2022 at the Gatehouse of Divine Providence Hospital. Surviving is his loving wife of 63 years, Virginia L. (Tilburg) Best.
Born July 9, 1941, in Williamsport, he was a son of the late Cecil R. and Beatrice (Grimes) Best.
Cecil retired after 34 years of employment from Textron Lycoming. At an early age Cecil became a certified rescue Skin diver and also obtained his Pilot’s license. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking, especially crafting wood furniture pieces for those he loved. Cecil was a hardworking, loyal and loving husband, father and grandfather.
Surviving in addition to his wife are three daughters, Cindy Bergstrom (Rob Pfirman) of Nisbet, Tina Ashton (Ronald) of South Williamsport and Sherri George (David) of Cogan Station; four grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and extended family. He also had many dear friends including those from the Polish Club where he was a member.
In addition to his parents, Cecil was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Amanda "Mandy" Bergstrom (a loving mother to Gabriel), a brother, Richard Best and his wife Isabel, as well as two sisters, Norma L. Tobin and Peggy Kline and her husband Chester.
A visitation to honor the life of Cecil will be held Tuesday, May 10 from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at Greenview Alliance Church, 1955 Warrensville Rd. Montoursville.
