Bernard Richard Stripp, 93, affectionately known as Barney, passed away peacefully on September 30, 2023 at home surrounded by family. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 66 years, Shirley L. (Gower) Stripp on June 20, 2021.
Born December 4, 1929 in Pittsburgh he was a son of the late Andrew Valentine and Laura Belle (White) Stripp.
He proudly served his country in the United States Army. He was a member of F.&A.M. Lodge #106, Williamsport and American Legion Post #36, Jersey Shore.
Barney was a dedicated service representative for J.I. Case Tractors for over 50 years. His love for tractors was not just confined to his professional life; it was also one of his personal interests. Barney was a skilled mechanic who traveled across the country and took great pride in his ability to keep the machines running smoothly.
Barney was a man of great character, known for his loving nature, gentle demeanor, and selfless acts of kindness. He was a doting husband and an all-around good man, always putting the needs of others before his own. A dedicated husband, he enjoyed doing all things with Shirley, especially escaping the cold winters of Pennsylvania by heading to Florida.
A devoted family man, he cherished the time he spent with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His love for his family was evident in every interaction, every smile, and every word.
Surviving is a daughter, Lori Paulhamus (Dennis) of Jersey Shore; a daughter-in-law, Cathy Stripp of Jersey Shore; four grandchildren, Stephanie (Scott), Scott (Angie), Caitlyn (Tyler) and Haley (Bill); six great-grandchildren, Lee, Cru, Wesson, Maddison, Rocky and Holden; and many nieces, nephews and a large extended family.
In addition to his parents and his wife, he was predeceased by a son, Richard Stripp and 11 siblings.
A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, October 5 at Sanders Mortuary, 821 Diamond Street, Williamsport.
An additional viewing will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, October 6 at Jersey Shore Presbyterian Church, 235 S. Main Street, Jersey Shore. A funeral service to honor Barney’s life will be held 11 a.m. Friday at church with Pastor Danesta Whaley officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Jersey Shore Cemetery.
