Ben Hoffman Obituary

Ben G. Hoffman, Jr., 97, of Williamsport passed away peacefully, Saturday, December 21, 2024 at the Williamsport Home. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 71 years, Carole Louise Wagoner Hoffman.

Born January 4, 1927 in Lee’s Cross Roads, PA he was a son of the late, Rev. Ben G. Hoffman and Eva Imogene “Jean” (Miller) Hoffman.

Ben graduated from Jersey Shore High School where he was proud to be a part of the Jersey Shore Bulldogs Football team.

Ben was drafted during World War II and proudly served his country in the United States Army. Upon returning home, he attended Williamsport Technical Institute. Ben worked as a machinist with Avco, Textron and the current Lycoming Engines for over 30 years until retiring.

Ben's life was one of dedication and joy. His love story began at the pool at Central Oak Heights, where he met the woman who would become his wife. Together they shared memories and a love for spending time at Central Oak Heights, enjoying church picnics and creating lasting friendships. Ben served on the Board of Directors and volunteer caretaker of the grounds. For many years, he was a member of First United Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday school. He was a Freemason.

A true Penn State enthusiast, Ben and Carole were season ticket holders for over 30 years. He relished every game, cheering on his team with vigor and pride and traveled to every bowl game including the Hula Bowl in Hawaii. His loyalty to Penn State was more than just a hobby; it was a part of who he was, an embodiment of his community spirit and his belief in the power of unity and sportsmanship. Ben's friends often joked that he bled blue and white, and together he and Carole will enjoy the Fiesta bowl with the best view possible.

Ben's warmth radiated through his quick wit and boundless kindness, leaving a legacy of joy and laughter. Known for his amiable nature, Ben was a master of harmless pranks, a trait that endeared him to friends and family alike. Ben's devotion to his family was unwavering, and he took immense pride in the accomplishments of each family member. Above all else, he loved his daughter, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Surviving is a daughter, Kimberlee H. Fredo (Mike) of Williamsport; three grandchildren, Evan Fredo (Jenny), Jordan Fredo (Taylor) and Kaitlyn Alston (Anthony); four great-grandchildren; a brother, Dean Hoffman (Barbara) of Woolrich; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Martha Martz, Alice McBride, Anna Mae Haney, Phyllis Yasui, and Jean Robb.

A funeral service to honor Ben’s life will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 28 at Sanders Mortuary, 821 Diamond Street, Williamsport. Burial will follow in Wildwood Cemetery, with military honors. A viewing will be held from 9:30 until the time of service, Saturday, at Sanders.
